Logic Gates: Symbols, Boolean Expressions and Tables

This project illustrates the operation of sixteen basic logic-gate configurations. You can see the names of these circuits in the left-hand column on the screen. When you select a circuit from this list, you will see:

When you are ready to work with the project, first select the logic gate you want to study from the list that is located on the left side of the screen.   Within a few seconds, you will see the symbols and truth table for the gate you selected.

Now look at the X-Box. This device simulates the logical operation of the gate you have selected. You can adjust the inputs to the gate by clicking the blue input terminals. Each time you click a terminal, its value toggles between logic-0 and logic-1. Notice the appropriate output at the white terminal of the X-Box.

Also, a green highlighted line on the truth table responds to your changes at the input terminals of the gate (actually the X-Box).

This is a great way to get some hands-on, interactive familiarization with all of the basic logic-gate configurations.

Oh, by the way--we dreamed up the name, X-Box, ourselves. This is not a legitimate term for discussing digital electronics technology.
